Boxx Cosmetics Overview, Colour Corrector in Melina & a Giveaway!

I recently visited the Boxx Cosmetics office here in Toronto to chat with the founder and creative force behind the brand, Sandra Milligan. The Boxx Cosmetics line features individually-sold cosmetics, brushes and two patented compacts that allow you to customize your colours and textures (i.e. cream vs. powder). The large “boxx” includes a good sized mirror, 2 side-by-side panels that have a magnetic base and 2 “window” closures. The overall system is great and allows the consumer to customize the shades and products they want. Each compact comes with a metal pick that “lifts” the products out of the compact, making changing things up super easy. I was able to look at both compacts and they are as sturdy as they come. The carrying case has room to hold a few mini brushes and although the compact itself is pretty large, I think it would actually take up less room in a makeup case or kit since it alleviates the need for multiple compacts. Sandra provided myself and 4 other bloggers the opportunity to try out one of Boxx’s best-selling products for ourselves. We were each given a yellow-toned Corrector called “Melina” to take home and try. This corrector can be used as a corrector, concealer, primer, brightener or foundation depending on your skin tone. The colour of this product as you’ll see below is VERY light and was quite noticeable on my NC35 skin tone, so I chose to add a darker concealer over top and then applied my foundation.  What this product does well is minimize/neutralize any redness I have underneath my eyes, on my nose and around my chin. A thin layer of Melina underneath my everyday concealer also brightened up my eye area and made my eyes look more “awake”. If you have blemishes or acne scarring, a yellow based corrector like this one will also help conceal any black, blue or purple discolouration. You can also use this multi-purposeful product to highlight the brow/cheek bones and the nose – anywhere light fits your face really….I just wish it was a touch darker. I also would have liked to see a green and purple based corrector in the lineup. Both green & purple correctors work wonders to cover up rosacea or to tone down yellow pigment in some skin types. Melina is a good product, however I have to question it’s value – at $24 per 4g, it is on the pricey side – however I will say that a little of this product does go a long way.
