#LuvMexAvocado Beauty Event at Tips Nail Bar featuring DIY Beauty Treatments Using Avocados!!

I love anything “Avocado” so when I was approached to attend an exclusive beauty blogger event at Tips Nail Bar last week hosted by the salon’s owner, Leanne Colley and Avocados from Mexico, I couldn’t resist making an appearance. Tips Nail Bar is one of the BEST nail salons in all of Toronto and the gorgeous Janine Falcon from Beauty Geeks was also scheduled to be in attendance, so it was total no-brainer for me to go. Janine was on hand to share beauty tips and “Do It Yourself” avocado beauty treatments for hands, face and hair. It was a fun filled night complete with tasty food, good company, great conversation and of course an amazing hand treatment and manicure!

As soon as we arrived (I went with my BBF LinerGlitterGloss), we had our photo taken with Miss Ava Cado, then we were handed a glass of wine and whisked away to choose a nail polish colour at the back for the salon. Also at the back was a stocked table of appetizers all featuring avocados and catered by the Root Cellar. Everything from the appetizers to the luxurious hand treatments was inspired by Avocados from Mexico. The avocado mini pancakes with smoked salmon and fresh dill were my favourite! Before our manicures, our hands were treated to an Avocado Hand Treatment (see recipe below) that is said to make hands brighter and softer!

Fun Avocado Facts
  • The world’s first avocado was grown and cultivated 9,000 years ago in the region now known as Mexico.
  • The best avocados in the world come from Mexico thanks to the region’s rich volcanic soil, ideal climate and growing conditions combined with centuries of expert cultivation.
  • An avocado is actually a fruit, though it is thought to be a vegetable
  • Avocados boast more than 9 grams of fibre per avocado and are low in carbohydrates
  • Avocados are a superfood because of their naturally dense nutrient content. They contain almost 20 essential nutrients such as folic acid, protein, iron, vitamin E, vitamin K and a variety of B vitamins! They also contain phytonutrients, believed to help prevent many chronic diseases. The “good” fats contained in avocados lower LDL cholesterol and promote heart health. Avocados are also a source of potassium which has been shown to help reduce stress levels and regulate blood pressure; they contain more potassium than a banana!!
  • Eating avocados helps keep skin moisturized since they are packed full with Vitamin E. As well as keeping your skin moisturised, did you know avocados can help with weight loss too and be a great natural ingredient for face masks? I didn’t know that until I did some research and came across this article, which was pretty informative!

Enriching Hair Mask (makes 1 application)

When applied to hair, avocado, egg yolk and olive oil act as humectants; they trap in moisture and the hair shafts soak up much needed nourishment.

Ingredients:

1 fully ripened avocado
1 egg yolk* (save the egg white for Avocado Hand Treatment)
1/2 teaspoon olive oil

Preparation:

In a shallow bowl, mash the avocado until smooth. Add an egg yolk and olive oil; stir until combined. Divide your dry hair into sections. With hands, apply mixture to hair by massaging into each section, concentrating on the ends. Allow to set for 30 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

I LOVE avocados but I’ve honestly only ever cooked with them…I make the best Avocado Chicken Salad! As crazy as this sounds though, I have never thought to use avocados for at-home beauty treatments until now. I am really looking forward to trying out some more #LuvMexAvocado beauty tips and delicious recipes found here.
